Steve Banahan & Louie Mack Awards

Every year, the Fayette County Democratic Party recognizes two individuals at the annual Awards Dinner for their contribution to the efforts of the Democratic Party.

Nominations for the 2018 Banahan and Mack Awards are now open.  Nominations must be received by 5:00 PM on April 8, 2019.  Recipients will be revealed at the 2019 FCDP Awards Dinner on Monday, April 22, at the Griffin Gate Marriott.  (For information on the Awards Dinner, please visit the 2019 Awards Dinner page.)

STEVE BANAHAN, SR. AWARD

The Steve Banahan, Sr. Award was established in 1973 to honor Mr. Bahanan, who served as Chief Dupty Clerk in the Fayette County Clerk’s office and as a Democratic leader for decades, including two terms as Chairperson of the Fayette County Democratic Party. This award honors Banahan and reminds us all of the personal sacrifice, determination, creativity, initiative, dependability, and enthusiasm it takes to have a successful Democratic Party. The Steve Banahan Sr. Award is awarded annually to the outstanding Fayette County Democrat who best exemplifies these traits during the previous year. Nominators will be asked to provide information regarding the nominee in the following areas. (The record upon which the nomination is based should be limited to 2018):

  • Describe your nominee’s scope of responsibility within and service to the Democratic Party (whether local, state, or national). (34 points)
  • Describe how your nominee’s creativity, initiative, and enthusiasm has impacted the Democratic Party (whether local, state or national). (33 points)
  • Describe the scope of your nominee’s personal determination, dedication and dependability to the Democratic Party (whether local, state or national) and how that has advanced the agenda of the Democratic Party. (33 points)

LOUIE MACK NEXT GENERATION AWARD

The Louie Mack Next Generation Award, established in 2007, is presented annual in recognition of inspirational contributions by a Fayette County Democrat between the ages of 18 and 35 years old. The Louie Mack Next Generation Award specifically recognizes exceptional contributions such as dedication, determination, leadership potential, talent, and vision. Nominees should be highly respected by their peers, demonstrate sound ethical and moral standards, and, having been so recognized and nominated, will be inspired to remain active in the Democratic Party. (You can view a list of previous Mack Award Winners here.)

Nominators will be asked to provide information regarding the nominee in the following areas.
