My Fellow Fayette County Democrats,

Serving as the Chairperson of your Fayette County Democratic Party has been a tremendous honor. For the past five and a half years, I’ve had the pleasure to work with a dedicated group of volunteers who are unmatched in their commitment to advancing our Party’s values on a local, state, and national levels.

Today, our county party sets the standard for local parties across the Commonwealth. The hard work of every volunteer has allowed us to turn Lexington from simply “leans blue” to solid blue, with what will prove to be a long-lasting Democratic electoral majority. I feel fortunate to have been a part of the team. Working alongside all the folks who give tirelessly of their time, talents, and treasure has been an incredibly fulfilling and rewarding experience.

This winter, after the success of the 2019 election and the preparation for what would have been, prior to COVID-19, our quadrennial reorganization process, I decided not to run for another term as Chair. With every election cycle, we are presented with new opportunities and challenges – and the time has come for fresh perspective and new energy to face what is ahead. Though our reorganization process was postposed, I believe the need to elect a new leader remains. Though my commitment to our Party and our candidates has not diminished, it has become increasingly difficult to balance the work required for this position with the other growing and changing priorities in my life. Our candidates, our volunteers, and our voters deserve a Chair who can embrace the role and its responsibilities with an uninhibited fervor.

On May 21, I tendered my official resignation to the Executive Committee, effective upon the election of a new Chair. Per our Bylaws, I appointed a Nominating Committee that is charged with reviewing applications and presenting a nomination (or nominations) to the Executive Committee for consideration. I have asked Alayne White, Chair of the 79th Legislative District and long-time FCDP Field Director, to head up this important task. Today, this Nominating Committee will begin accepting applications for a new FCDP Chair.

If you or someone you know is interested in serving, please review the Notice of Vacancy and submit an application to the Nominating Committee by 5:00 PM on June 22.  The Executive Committee will meet to elect a new Chair on July 9 during the July FCDP Executive Committee Meeting.  (On the Notice of Vacancy you will find both the process for submitting an application and the position qualifications.)

I would like to thank everyone for your support and encouragement over these past several years. I am continually amazed by the way so many of you show up again and again to do the work that needs to be done. Your devotion to making our community a better place is inspiring.

Specifically, I would like to thank my incredible Vice Chair, Andrea Ewen, as she joins me in transitioning to emeritus status. Andrea’s resiliency and steadfast commitment to our Party has been the foundation for our growing successes. I have been, we all have been, lucky to have her.

I look forward to spending the next five weeks preparing for a smooth transition. Likewise, I am excited about what is in store for the Fayette County Democrats!

Clint Morris, Chair
